Universities

Well, I have recently looked at some college websites, looking for a college that is not near where I live, because I want to feel more independent and free when I graduate high school. I believe that this is very important because it gives you a taste of what is to come in life. Some colleges that I am considering are New York University (NYU), Columbia University in the City of New York, as well as a few others that I should read up more on. The main reasons why I already decided on these two universities are that they have great programs for studying abroad, they are located in a bustling city, and they both have great reputations, with overall rankings of 94.0% for NYU, and 96.6% for Columbia. I am not one of those big planner people who plan their entire lives, but having a goal set for your future is always important, and I aim at attending either one of these two great schools, or some other school that has what I am looking for. A great website for searching for a college that suits your needs is www.stateuniversity.com

Smart = Clueless about Relationships?

I have recently heard about Dr. Alex Benzer, who is a Harvard and Cambridge educated certified hypnotherapist, who developed a theory that "smart people" (his definition: the top 5% of the population) have a hard time dating and finding people who they enjoy the company of. This guy was so bold as to even write a few books about his theory; these include The Tao of Dating: The Smart Woman's Guide to Embracing Your Inner Goddess & Finding the Fulfillment You Deserve and The Tao of Dating: The Thinking Man's Enlightened Guide to Success with Women. In my opinion, such bold statements are quite uncalled for, and even though it might be true that some "smart people" do not have very much success with the opposite gender, it is not because they do not understand other people. Intellectuals are put down as "nerds" or "geeks" just because they have different interests than the rest of us, but what we ourselves do not notice is that we all have different interests; some people like sports, others like the theater, while others just like to draw, or play music. We are all different, but our differences make us who we are. People would not be as advanced were it not for all of these differences, and I might even be so bold as to say that if none of us ever cared about knowledge, we would have been extinct a long time ago. So to all of you who are reading this; LAY OFF THE SMART KID!

The 80s Are Comming Back!

As many of you have already witnessed, the 80s are comming back fast. The way people dress, the music they listen to, and many other everyday things that used to be common in the 80s are resurfacing, as well as becomming diferent to acomodate new ideas, new technology, etc. I say "Bring it on"! Since I was not even alive during this great period of time, I had missed a lot, but since people have rediscovered the glory of my missed years, they seem to be embracing those years more and more. Dance music, crazy shutter shades, and walkmans were all popular, as well as neon colors, tight pants (although they are kind of uncomfortable), and loose hoodies. People used to hate techno, but now more and more music is in the dance and electronic styles. Maybe that's because they try to copy other countries (such as France, Russia, England, Japan), or maybe it's just because people who were alive back then were bored with where the country was going, and decided to look back at the "good old days". Whatever the reason, I like this change in pop culture, as do many of my classmates.

Save the Frogs

I have heard of this a while ago, but since this is a huge issue, I think that other people should know about this. The worlds amphibian populations have been decreasing rapidly for quite some time now, and on February 29, 2008, a campaign to save the frogs of the world was launched. The name: Year
 of the Frog. While some amphibians are still abundant, many are becoming endangered due to habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, and Batrachochytrium dedrobatidis (a type of fungus that slowly kills the frog and is easily spread through waterways). You can help the cause by learning as much as you can about amphibians, create an amphibian friendly environment in your yard by providing clean water, hiding places, and insects to eat. You can also try to keep the environment clean, conserve water wherever you can, reduce the use of fossil fuels, and by donating to your local wildlife conservation fund. Even small donations count towards having a healthier, more beautiful, diverse biome.
